Border to Border Odyssey of Endurance
1 November – 8 November 2008
The 2 nd annual Border to Border Odyssey of Endurance sponsored by the Hua Hin Hash House Harriers invites anyone with half a mind to join us on a hash challenge that begins at the Burma border and ends near a mine field at the Cambodian Border.
The event is part pedaling and part pounding the pavement but all fun.
Beginning on Saturday the 1 st of November we’ll go on a hash run/walk with the Cha Am Hash somewhere in the Cha Am/Hua Hin area.
On Sunday, 2 November we’ll go to the Sing Khon checkpoint on the Thai – Burma border near Prachuap Khirikhan and bike from the border to the beach near Ao Manoa where we’ll stop for some fresh seafood and traditional Thai foods at a restaurant or two right on the beach near the fishing piers. Plenty of cold beer will be available too.
Since it is not possible to pedal or paddle a bike across the Gulf of Thailand, we’ll leave the bikes behind and go by road past Bangkok and down the eastern seaboard to Pattaya and a run with the Pattaya hash on Monday the 3 rd.
On Tuesday the 4 th we’ll go further south about 40 km past Trat and check into the Golden Cliffs Beach Resort. After lunch there, it’s on-on toward Ban Had Lek where we will have a hash run from the beach to the Cambodian Border.
Once we have reached the end of the run near the Cambodian border we will have hashed completely across Thailand from Burma to Cambodia detouring just once at the only impassable obstacle on the trail, the Gulf of Thailand.
After reaching the end of the run we will return to the Golden Cliffs Beach Resort for an On On On. Though we will have accomplished our feat of endurance upon reaching the Cambodian border we will take the opportunity to visit beautiful Ko Chang on the 5 th and 6 th of November. There might be a hash run there as well. For hashers who want more hashing yet, there’s plenty of opportunity to run with several Bangkok hashes on the weekend of the 8 th and 9 th of November as well as on Monday the 10 th.
For hashers returning to the Hua Hin / Cha Am area, run #135 of the Hua Hin Hash (H2H3) will go on the 8 th of November.
Want to join the fun? This is a pay-your-own-way event. Just e-mail Slackbladder or Ballbanger and let us know who you are, how many of you are coming, when you will arrive, and so on. If you are going to need a bicycle we can arrange a rental for the 2 nd of November. We can also arrange hotels/ transportation as required. We might even be able to answer some questions.
To answer some questions that we know will be coming our way:
(Q)How long is the bike ride on the 2 nd?
(A) Less than 40 Km for the long route and just 20 Km for the shorcutters.
(Q)How long is the run segment of the Odyssey of Endurance?
(A) Not more than 5 Km.
There will be a commemorative T-shirt for participants of the event whether going on the Burma Bike segment, the Cambodian minefield segment, or both. (No Fees, no Free T.)
There will also be a commemorative trophy. (cash & carry)
If you are attending the Mekong Indochina Hash in Sukhothai on the 25 th and 26 th of October, this Border to Border Odyssey of Endurance provides a great opportunity to see more of wonderful Thailand and to run with 4 or fun Thailand hashes if you wish.
